It was quiet.... so silent that night. The occasional rustle of the leaves and grass were the only sounds i'd heard. I'd been sitting in the middle of that field for hours, watching as the sun slowly dropped below the curve of the Earth. It grew very dark... darker than i've ever seen.
I looked up, and to my surprise, there were no stars... not a single spot of light in that sky. Even the moon hid itself. I laid myself down and stared at that sky for a long time.
Not a thought passed through my mind.... not until it grew exceptionally late. I'm guessing around... two in the morning? Then I thought of him.... I thought of his smile... how he laughed at the silliest things... he would grab my hand, dragging me along on one of his stupid adventures... no matter what he brought me into, I couldn't help but be happy. Even if I didn't show it... I was so happy just being around him. Damn, just hearing him say my name made me feel... overwhelmed with happiness.
Just thinking of him once that night got me feeling all nostalgic. I'd closed my eyes while thinking... just wanting to picture his adorable face in my mind. When I finally opened my eyes... just one, no others... just one little flickering star showed itself. And somehow, after feeling so alone that night... after staring at that empty, pitch black sky for so many hours... that star gave me hope...
"Maybe..." I said... "Maybe i'll see him again... just once more. I would be happy if I could just see him once more."
And with that, I got up, smiling... and went home to get some sleep.
